2025 Bark at the Parx, Let the Ears Fly

Barx in the Parx, Let The Ears Fly – benefiting the Tri-State Bassett Hound Rescue

Start at 2:27:29 – 2:32:15 Swede Heat 1

Ruby Heat 7 3:27:27

Swede Finals  4:19:00

Swede came in 2nd place in the first heat to qualify for the Finals. Karen fell, tripped by a dog after Swede’s race. She was caught on camera and hit her head. She was wearing the GoPro on her head, but unfortunately, it was not recording. Swede did not place in the Final but had a good run. I had to carry him to the Starting Line. Ruby was in the 7th heat and did not place. The dogs that won had an unfair head start. They were way out in front of the actual gate. She did receive the Crowd Favorite Award for barking the whole time Swede was racing in the final.

Meditation on Love

"If love is in our hearts, every thought, word, and deed can bring about a miracle. Because understanding is the very foundation of love, words and actions that emerge from our love are always helpful." -- Thich Nhat Hanh

Karen is my loving wife whom I love, whole-heartedly.

Thinking Less

Thinking Less

We are thinking all of the time.
Most of our thinking is useless.
Dwelling on the past.
Worrying about the future.
A waste of time.
And we miss out on
The present moment.

Freya

Freya
Parody of John Mayer’s Daughters September 9, 2003
by Timothy E. Wahlstrom, February 9, 2025
Dedicated to my first Granddaughter, Freya Sophie Muench

I know a girl
She puts the color inside of my world
But I’m just so amazed
Now, all of the walls all continually change
And I've done all I can
To stand by her crib with my heart in my hand
Now I'm starting to see
This baby’s got so much yet to see

Grandfathers, be good to Granddaughters
Granddaughters will love like you do
Granddaughters become lovers who turn into Grandmothers
So Grandmothers be good to Granddaughters too

Oh, you see that skin?
It's the same she's been living in
Since the day she saw the first light of day
Now we’re here bringing up the girl we love

Grandfathers, be good to Granddaughters
Granddaughters will love like you do
Granddaughters become lovers who turn into Grandmothers
So Grandmothers be good to Granddaughters too
So Grandmothers be good to Granddaughters too
So Grandmothers be good to Granddaughters too
So Grandmothers be good to Granddaughters too

The Earth is Nourished

The Earth is Nourished

The Earth is Nourished

It has already begun to rain.

The Earth is being nourished.

Plants and animals are getting what they need to grow.

I am tired.

I slept too much yesterday.

I did not sleep enough last night.

I barely did anything all day.

The sky is turning darker.

I am having trouble seeing what I am writing.

I turn on a light.

Light is a precious gift.

It too nourishes the Earth, plant and animals.

I would have a very different life without light and water.

If any life at all.

Thank you for the rain.

Thank you for the light.

I Sat Too Long

I Sat Too Long

I sat too long
I cannot move
Cry out in song
Begin in love
It won't be long
Or give a shove
Bang a gong
Rise above
You do belong
Stay with love
Continue in song

Find Rest in Sleep

Find Rest in Sleep

Find rest in sleep
There is no relief
Sink in deep
I have no belief
Do not weep
Only grief
Your soul to keep
Spit through my teeth
Give though steep
Delve beneath
Find rest in sleep

I wrote Find Rest in Sleep so that every other verse only really fits with every other one and was not written with the previous verse in mind. The odd verses are positive and the even verses are negative. The last words of the odd verses rhyme with the odd verses and even verses with the even ones.

It was one morning when I could NOT sleep > 7 hours. I fell asleep at 7 pm and woke at 2 am. It is a poem commingled with hope and pain like life is.

Alone

Alone

In my low times, I feel alone in the world.
No one is here for me.
I have no one to turn
To that may ease my sorrows
Many empty tomorrows.

I stretch out
With my feelings
Seeking some solace
They come back to me
Empty, gathering nothing, no one to be.

Then, I wake to another
Sunrise
Hope restored
I return to myself
A person
Some people
The Universe
Start writing a new verse.
